KeyBank employees got their hands dirty while volunteering Wednesday at the Stamford Senior Center.

It was all part of KeyBank's annual Neighbors Make a Difference Day. Several thousand volunteers participated in projects across the nation to give back to their communities.

In Stamford, the employees participated in two volunteer activities at the senior center. The group reupholstered cushions on patio chairs and planted flowers for the outside area.

The executive director of the senior center, Christina Crain, said the upkeep is crucial since they use the space for many events. The patio outside is used for barbecues and celebrations. 

"Nonprofits operate on a tight budget and very limited staff so anytime we can get volunteers from the community to help us further our mission, it's a great thing," said Crain.

This was the 28th year of the bank's national Neighbors Make a Difference Day.
