A man from Sayreville is under arrest after being accused of beating someone and driving over them with a car.
Friends and family of Jerry Wolkowitz say the Freehold Township man is clinging to life after being the victim of an unprovoked attacked.
The apparent attack occurred in the parking lot of his Harding Road residence.
Monmouth County prosecutors have charged Jamil Hubbard with first-degree attempted murder and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Investigators say the 25-year-old approached Wolkowitz from behind, punched him in his face, dragged him into the parking lot and drove his vehicle over the victim.
Prosecutors say Hubbard then stole the victim's car, which was later discovered abandoned on Bordentown Avenue in Sayreville.
Police eventually tracked down Hubbard at his home.
The two men did not know each other prior to the attack, police say.
Residents say they feel like they were left in the dark by police who they say never publicized the incident.
In response, a spokesperson for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office released a statement saying, "We held off because of the victim's condition."
Hubbard is due before a judge on July 10.
