A request for a mistrial has been denied in the corruption trial of ex-Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto, ex-Nassau Executive Ed Mangano and his wife, Linda.
Venditto's defense attorneys had argued that prosecutors improperly stated Venditto was guilty of bribery, or that he lied to his lawyer while questioning witnesses this week. They sought a mistrial, but the request was denied.
Venditto and the former Nassau executive are charged with accepting bribes from restaurateur Harendra Singh in exchange for town-guaranteed loans and county contracts.
Singh secured lucrative county contracts and more than $20 million in town-backed loans after he says he provided the former officials with perks.
