A mother and her baby who were attacked by a pit bull in March returned to Cohen Children’s Medical Center Friday to thank neurosurgeons for saving the boy’s life.

Susan Na'anmiap and her then 2-month-old son Nathan were attacked in Elmont. At the time, she was knocking on a neighbor’s door with Nathan in a car seat. The pit bull raced out of the home and attacked them both.

Doctors likened the severe injuries to Nathan's skull to those only seen in combat. The Na'anmiap family says the doctors performed a miracle to save their boy.

Na'anmiap says this Mother's Day will be extra special.

"My baby is doing very well, so I'm going to spend it with joy in my heart,” she said.

Doctors say they will be keeping a close eye on the boy to make sure there are no future neurological problems.

The dog that attacked them was voluntarily euthanized after a court hearing.
