A Hempstead police officer who is facing criminal charges is keeping his job for now.
Randy Stith is accused of falsifying a letter of recommendation to become an officer.
Stith is also charged with stealing $6,500 from the Hempstead Fire Department where he was treasurer.
Hempstead's Police Chief tells News 12 he wanted to fire Stith, but the village board voted unanimously to keep him in the position.
