The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has released cellphone video of a fight involving Rutgers football players from 2015.
The fight occurred in New Brunswick in an area where students live and socialize. The video shows several members of the 2015 Rutgers football team throwing punches. At one point a person falls down and that person appears to get kicked and stomped on.
The video was referenced in court various times while the people involved faced prosecution. The judge at the time called the video “barbaric.”
Former player Delon Stephenson is said to have sucker-punched someone during the fight. He was given a three-day jail sentence. He apologized during his sentencing.
“I’m sorry to the whole Rutgers University [community] for bringing a bad image toward the school,” he said.
Prosecutors say that former player Nadir Barnwell was also seen punching people in the video.
Player Razohonn Gross was the only player seen in the video who was allowed to play a sport at Rutgers again. It was not exactly clear what Gross is seen doing in the video. Gross went on to join the Rutgers wrestling team after the incident.
News 12 New Jersey has reached out to the university and the prosecutor’s office for comment on the video and is waiting to hear back.
