Motorcycle ride raises funds for service dog organization

DEER PARK -

The annual Poker Run event was held in Deer Park Sunday to benefit Canine Companions.

Canine Companions pairs people with disabilities with service dogs all free of charge. It relies on fundraising to be able to help.

The event gave anyone with a motorcycle the opportunity to ride for the cause.

Mike Levine, one of the organizers of the event, says the goal is to raise $10,000 to $15,000 to help people with disabilities, like Shaun Egry, get paired with a service dog.

Egry's mom Lisa says they got her son's service dog, Honey, three years ago, and she has made all the difference in how much Shaun has progressed.

"She's his best friend,” says Lisa Egry. “She helps him pick things up, she helps to undress him. She takes off his socks, she picks up his shoes and braces. She helps bridge the gap for communication with other people. She's such a great ambassador for Canine Companions, and she's such a big help in his life."
