Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau celebrates 70 years

ROOSEVELT -

A center of learning and growth on Long Island is celebrating 70 years of service today.

The Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County helps hundreds of children and adults with disabilities every day to improve their lives.

CP Nassau says it has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

“When you think that this started 70 years ago with parents in a VFW hall in a basement in Freeport, and they carried their child downstairs for therapy services that they paid for out of pocket, and now we're on this gorgeous 14-acre campus ... the parents today really think that this has always been here but it hasn't,” says Karen Geller-Hittleman.

CP Nassau services up to 1,500 people annually and has a staff of 900 people on its Roosevelt campus.
