LONG BEACH -

An irate commuter was caught on camera going on a racist rant to women on the Long Island Rail Road.

The incident occurred on April 19 on a 10 p.m. train from Penn Station to Long Beach.

The person who shot cellphone video of the incident says the commuter was upset at two black women for being too loud. At a couple points in the video, he calls the women "monkeys" and says they “couldn't possibly know who their parents are.”

One commuter told News 12 that “we should learn to respect each other.”

“I think if we learned how to respect each other, the world would be a better place,” she said.

Some say the incident also raises safety concerns on the train.

The MTA released a statement saying, “This language is offensive, completely inappropriate, and has no place in our society, let alone on the Long Island Rail Road. We are actively investigating this report."

News 12 asked the MTA if the commuter could face any charges and a spokesperson said it's too early to tell.

As for security on trains, the MTA said anyone who sees a situation like this unfolding should notify a conductor immediately. The MTA added that conductors are trained on how to de-escalate situations and are able to request MTA Police assistance at any point in a train's route.
