Hempstead Town worker accused of torturing, starving pit bull

A Town of Hempstead employee is accused of torturing and starving his 4-year-old pit bull.
Police say Maurice Hankins, of Massapequa, was arrested on Wednesday.
Authorities say in February, the 36-year-old left his pit bull tied up outside a Roosevelt home in the cold weather, with no food, water or shelter.
Hankins is a heavy equipment operator for Hempstead Town.
Hankins is facing several charges, including torturing an animal.
The dog was rushed to a shelter for life saving emergency surgery.
