Sisters of St. Joseph go green with solar array

Posted: Updated:
BRENTWOOD -

The Sisters of St. Josephs in Brentwood are going green.

The sisters had a solar array installed on their 211-acre property. It provides 63 percent of their electric.

Sister Helen Kearney says that electric is being used to run its literacy center, a day care center, the BOCES nursing program and nursing home, as well as a Muslim academy that operates on its grounds.

"The bottom line is we have beautiful land here, and we found its worth is priceless," says Sister Kearney.

She also says that seven organic farmers are using the land to provide produce to the surrounding neighborhood.

Kearney tells News 12 that she hopes the solar array will set an example in the community as to the importance of sustainable energy.
