Police say they've arrested the suspect who donned a surgical mask to carry out a string of armed robberies in Suffolk County.
Detectives say 50-year-old Marchell Rountree, of Bellport, was behind five gunpoint robberies dating back to mid-February. The holdups targeted 7-Eleven stores and gas stations in East Patchogue, Holbrook and Yaphank.
Each time, police say Rountree would walk in, point a gun at the clerk and take off with cash from the register. It's unclear how much money Rountree allegedly made off with.
No injuries were reported in any of the robberies.
Rountree is charged with five counts of first-degree robbery. Officials say he has one prior felony conviction.
Workers at a Valero gas station that Rountree allegedly robbed in East Patchogue were relieved to hear of an arrest in the case.
