A Wyandanch woman is facing charges for allegedly neglecting her two dogs.
Officials say the two Shih-tzu mix dogs belonged to 49-year-old Blanca Andrade. The SPCA says the animals had fleas, untreated infections, signs of malnourishment and urine-soaked fur that was severely matted.
"They had difficulty walking, and even screamed in pain from touching them, because they were so matted," says Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross. "This was just a horrific case of sheer neglect."
According to neighbors, the dogs were seen outside in all types of weather, including extreme heat, rain and even snow. Neighbor Jose Colorado says he routinely saw the two dogs wandering around his neighborhood, and says he assumed they were strays.
News 12 visited Andrade's home on Davidson Street, but she would not comment.
The dogs were taken to the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter.
Andrade is charged with two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance. She's due to appear in court in July.
