St. Baldrick’s event raises $400K for childhood cancer research

FLORAL PARK -

Two-hundred people got their heads shaved to raise money for children’s cancer research Saturday during one of the largest St. Baldrick’s events on Long Island.

It was held in the back parking lot of Trinity restaurant in Floral Park. The event honored Aiden Brinkley, who died from cancer at age 11.

His 12-year-old brother Devin told News 12 that he has since participated in St. Baldrick’s fundraisers eight times.

Aiden’s mother Lisa Binkley says since the event's inception, they've raised $2 million for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

She says Saturday’s event raised $400,000.

"It's an amazing, amazing thing," she told News 12. “There's nothing like it.”

The foundation says it has raised $234 million for childhood cancer research since 2005.
