Cause of 5-alarm fire remains unclear

The cause of a five-alarm fire that destroyed seven businesses in Fordham remains a mystery.
Around 200 firefighters responded to the blaze Tuesday at 316 East 194 St. near Marion Avenue around 5:30 a.m.
The fire destroyed a pizzeria, a barbershop, a laundromat, a pharmacy, a beauty parlor, a Chinese restaurant and a tax prep store. Authorities say the roof of the building also partially caved in, but the fire chief says no one was injured.
A supermarket next door escaped serious damage, but it has closed down for cleanup.
"The fire department did a great job," says Pedro Goico, who owns the supermarket. "We were very worried and thought the store was going to be destroyed."
Fire officials are working to determine a cause.
