Syrian strikes garner mixed feelings among Long Islanders

Long Islanders who spoke with News 12 had mixed feelings about President Donald Trump’s decision to conduct airstrikes in Syria as a response to the country’s use of chemical weapons against its citizens.

Bill McCoy, of Garden City, said that the strike was something that needed to be done.

“I don't know what else we would do, sit back and watch?" said McCoy.

Another Long Islander said that the U.S. is trying to “dictate our will” on other countries.

“I just think we should stay out of everybody else's lives,” the unnamed resident said.

Former Homeland Security advisor Michael Balboni says one response from Syria's ally Russia could come through cyberspace.

"Our operating systems, including utilities, there could be some kind of an impact," said Balboni.

Security experts say they're also concerned about retaliation against troops serving in the Mediterranean.
