New apartment complex proposal faces opposition in Farmingdale

A proposed apartment complex in downtown Farmingdale is not getting a very warm welcome.
Some businesses and residents feel the building would change the area and not for the better.
Residents feel it will make Main Street too crowded.
John Filagrossi, owner of Gino's Pizzeria on Main Street in Farmingdale, says if the village approves the plan to build a 54-unit apartment building with commercial storefronts, it would be the end of his business.
The project called "The Loft" would be built on Main Street where the old CVS used to be.
At a public hearing Monday night, many residents spoke out against the project saying it's too big.
"This proposal is way too big for Main Street. I think it's going to change the look of the town. It's going to be too congested this way," says Filagrossi.
The village says the plan falls three parking spaces short of village code. However. Residents worry the village will make an exception and amend the parking code.
There will be at least one more public hearing before the board votes on it.
