Facebook said it was notifying users Monday if their personal data was shared with the data-mining company Cambridge Analytica.

Approximately 87 million of Facebook’s account holders may have had their personal information shared, according to the social media company.

Facebook said it was also sending out notifications to all of its nearly 2.2 billion users with a detailed message titled, "Protecting your Information.” The notification informs users which apps they use and what kind of information they shared with those apps.

“The question is, at the end of the day, knowing what we know now, will this change behavior?” says social media expert Danielle Conte. She says time will tell how the scandal ultimately affects the website.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill Monday. He will be testifying before Congress Tuesday.

Zuckerberg is expected to admit Facebook did not respond fast enough to privacy concerns.

Currently, a movement to delete the social network is gaining attention online.
