Police: Masked burglars restrained woman in home invasion
Police say a woman was tied up by burglars in ski masks during a home invasion in Suffolk early Saturday morning.
It happened at a home on Shaber Road in Patchogue just before 4 a.m. Police say a 34-year-old woman was inside her bedroom when she heard a sound at her back door.
When she went to investigate, police say the two masked suspects pushed her inside, entered the home and tied up the victim's hands using a cellphone cord.
The woman, a single mother who doesn't want to be identified, spoke exclusively with News 12. She says one suspect held her at gunpoint while the other stole her cellphone, plus $150 in cash and her paychecks. She says both of the suspects then took off.
"It feels like forever when you have a gun to the back of your head and your face buried in the carpet and a dirty sock stuffed in your mouth and your hands are tied so tight behind your back you can't even feel your fingers anymore,” the victim told News 12. “It could have been a lot worse and it didn't so I am very blessed."
After the burglars fled, she says she ran out her house wearing her pajamas and slippers, her hands were still tied behind her back. She says when she got to the intersection of Shaber Road and Route 112, a car with three people inside pulled over, untied her hands and let her use a cellphone to call 911.
Police are looking into whether the incident was a targeted burglary or a random act.
Detectives are urging anyone who may have information on the case to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS.
