The number of THC products in Nassau County is on the rise, according to Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.

THC is the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's psychological effects. Ryder says it is a gateway drug to the use of opiates.

He says Nassau police have already made 410 arrests this year related to THC vaping products and edibles. They made nearly 400 THC-related arrests in 2016 and then almost a thousand arrests last year.

Police also say arrests for driving while high on THC have tripled over the past two years.

Police say anyone with a THC vape cartridge can be prosecuted. Police also tell News 12 Long Island they’re cracking down on vape shops to make sure they’re not selling THC.
