Police found a married man and woman dead in a Holbrook basement Tuesday afternoon after their daughter called 911 and asked for officers to check on them, according to investigators.
Police said the daughter hadn't heard from her parents in a couple of days. Responding officers found both dead of gunshot wounds shortly after 3 p.m.
Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer, of the Suffolk County Police Department, said it was not immediately clear to investigators whether the incident had been a murder-suicide or a suicide pact.
"We don't suspect anyone other than to two of them are involved," he said.
One neighbor told News 12 Long Island that the husband had recently sold his pet-grooming business and a plot of land adjacent to the house on Patchogue-Holbrook Road.
Police said both the man and the woman suffered from undisclosed health problems.
