Harendra Singh was back on the stand Tuesday for a grilling by attorneys for Linda Mangano and former Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto.

Last week, the jury listened to wiretaps in which Singh spoke to a friend about the idea that he had nothing on former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and other politicians.

If that's true, it directly contradicts the testimony that Singh delivered in the trial, in which he said he paid Mangano and Venditto bribes and kickbacks in exchange for official government action.

Singh also testified that he gave Mangano’s wife Linda a no-show job that paid $100,000.

Her attorney John Carman questioned the restaurateur about marketing work she did for his company.

“Any recollection of Linda telling you about things she said she did for your company that were false?" he asked Singh.

“Most of the things she told me were false," he replied.

Carman submitted dozens of email exchanges into evidence between Linda Mangano and a general manager of two of Singh's restaurants. The emails discuss Linda’s work, which included writing press releases, invitations and revised menu proofs.

In one email, the general manager writes to Linda, "Thank you for your help."  She replies, “Whatever you need...I'm your gal."

Venditto’s attorney then laid into Singh, at one point entering into evidence a resume Singh submitted to the Town of Oyster Bay as part of a Request for Proposal to do business with the town's golf course. The resume stated Singh had a master’s degree in business from NYIT and a bachelor’s in business administration. Singh said under oath that he has neither of those degrees.

When Venditto's attorney asked Singh why he lied to the town, his response was, "I was trying to do whatever I could to get my business going."

Singh also testified that he sent a text message to Ed Mangano in October 2013 saying in part, “I have a court date on Monday. You know I have nothing to offer. I can't lie.”

The message ends with: “I made some mistakes which I will regret rest of my life."

At one point in the late afternoon, the judge called for a short break in the testimony after Singh frustrated Venditto’s attorney by not directly answer his “yes” or “no” questions.

The cross-examination will continue Wednesday.
