Police say a man was killed in an industrial accident Friday in Hauppauge.

Authorities say Sergio Escobar, of Brentwood, was cutting a metal drum with a grinder at Bactolac Pharmaceutical on Old Willets Path. The drum exploded and struck Escobar, according to police.

The 59-year-old was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified, police say.

News 12 Long Island did not immediately hear back from Bactolac Pharmaceutical for comment.
