Funeral services were held today for Tech. Sgt. Dashan Briggs, of Port Jeff Station – one of four members of the Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing who died earlier this month in a chopper crash in Iraq.
Friends spoke Thursday about how giving he was, how great he was as a father, and how honored they were to have served with him.
Briggs, 30, was a graduate of Riverhead High School. His alma mater paid its respects to the fallen hero as students in the Navy Junior ROTC saluted his funeral procession.
Students from Riverhead Middle School and Pulaski Street School also lined the procession route to pay homage to the fallen hero.
Briggs was buried at Calverton National Cemetery. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
