Second day of wakes held for fallen FDNY firefighter from LI

Mourners packed the second day of wake services Monday for the FDNY firefighter from Floral Park who died battling a fire in a building where a movie was being filmed in Harlem last week.
Michael Davidson, a father of four and 15-year FDNY veteran, succumbed to smoke inhalation Thursday after fighting the fire, according authorities. He was posthumously promoted to lieutenant over the weekend.
The line of mourners stretched around the block from the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home in Floral Park Monday as people waited to pay their respects.
Some people waited as long as two hours to make it inside.
Floral Park neighbors donated food and water for the many people attending the wake Monday.
"This village always comes together," said Mike Longobardi, chief of the village's fire department. "It's an amazing outpouring from all residents and businesses who have given us so much over the last two days."
Relatives and friends described him as a big-hearted colleague and family man.
FDNY Lt. Greg Damato said he met Davidson in the fire academy, and both were assigned to Engine 69 and Ladder 28.
"I watched him grow as a firefighter, watched him become a loving husband and father," Damato said.
Funeral services will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Manhattan.
