Driver slams into utility pole in Norwalk

A driver slammed into a utility pole in Norwalk Friday morning, shutting down the area of Van Buren and Bedford avenues for much of the day.
The car became wrapped in downed wires when it hit the pole, according to witness Tyler Mills. He says he recently became an Uber Eats driver and was making some runs with friends along for the ride. He stopped to check on the driver but says he ran into trouble of his own.
"The wires flung me to the right side of the road," Mills says. "We told each other not to get out of the car until the cops turned off all the power."
The driver who struck the pole was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Police say they found a bag of marijuana inside the car while assessing the damage. The driver was cited for possession and failure to maintain a proper lane.
The crash remains under investigation. The streets have since reopened.
