Three Nassau police officers, one of them a rookie, helped save four people after a deadly crash on the Wantagh State Parkway Wednesday.
The victims were riding in a white minivan that ran off the road and flipped on its side. The crash ejected and killed a 51-year-old woman who police did not immediately identify.
As the officers worked to free the trapped passengers, the van was leaking gas on and around them, police said.
"Their heroic actions no doubt saved those additional occupants of that vehicle," said Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
