Long Branch bakery serves up St. Joseph’s Day goodies

Italian-Americans are celebrating St. Joseph’s Day today, just two days after Irish-Americans celebrated St. Patrick's Day.
The crew at Caputo's Bakery in Long Branch have been very busy all day and can't even keep up with the demand for bread and zeppoles to honor the patron saint of Sicily, St. Joseph.
“It's Father's Day in Italy and my grandfather Joseph, me being Joseph, it's like being a second birthday,” says baker Joe Caputo.
A fifth-generation baker, Caputo will make more than 2,000 zeppoles by day’s end.
Customers come from all over for the traditional recipes, like Joyce Valentino, who sells Caputo's St Joseph's treats at her deli, named Joseph's, in Spring Lake.
“When we went to Spring Lake, my husband decided to bring it there and for the past 30 years we brought St. Joseph's zeppoles from Caputo's to Spring Lake,” says Valentino.
Caputo also gives back to his community, donating loaves of the special bread to all the parishioners at a local church attending a Mass in honor of St. Joseph.
