City officials took a major step forward toward bringing medical marijuana to Stamford.

The zoning board unanimously approved plans for a dispensary to open in a vacant store front at 806 East Main St.

It's now up to the state to decide if the location will be one of three new dispensaries opening across Connecticut next year.

Currently, medical marijuana patients in greater Stamford have to travel to Milford or Bethel.
