A hit-and-run driver who killed a 50-year-old man in Williamsburg early Monday morning wound up later being shot and killed by police on Long Island, authorities say.

After the hit-and-run on Metropolitan Avenue, police say the suspect continued on a destructive path. Nassau County police say the suspect was at a stop sign in Great Neck --with two cars behind him -- when one driver blew their horn. Police say the suspect became enraged, jumped out of a Volkswagen and bashed the driver's side window of the car behind him with a bat.

Police say that driver got out of the car and was struck in the head by the suspect, who then smashed the side window of another car. When an officer arrived, police say the suspect charged at an officer with the bat, prompting them to use a stun gun, but to no avail.

After failing to follow instructions, police say two shots were fired, with one striking the suspect in the chest. He died at a hospital.

The names of the suspect and the officer involved have not been released at this time.
