Nassau County prepares for nor'easter

HICKSVILLE -

Nassau County officials prepared Monday for the third nor'easter in less than two weeks.

The brunt of the storm is expected to make for a difficult and messy morning commute.

"We urge people to use extreme caution when traveling, if in fact you do have to travel," said County Executive Laura Curran.

In the meantime, plenty of people did some shopping to prepare for a day indoors.

"I've stocked up on plant-based milk products, tortillas and refried beans," said Stephanie Lupo, of Hicksville.

The Long Island Rail Road is also preparing for another day of wintry weather. It begins its snow operations overnight by spreading de-icing fluid on the tracks and salting commuter platforms. Still, some residents said they may skip the LIRR Tuesday based on its past snow responses.

"It was pretty tough to get to school," said Deandre Tention, of Westbury. "If it's looking like it's going to be a problem tomorrow, I might just have to stay home."

The LIRR plans on operating on a normal schedule Tuesday.
