The upstate death of a nursing student from Long Island has been declared a homicide, and a manhunt is now underway for a person of interest in the case who is believed to have left the country.
Haley Anderson, 22, of Westbury, was a student at Binghamton University. Police say she was found dead at an off-campus house shortly before 1 p.m. Friday. Her cause of death has not been released.
Police say they're seeking a person of interest in the case. His name is not being released, but authorities say it is Anderson's ex-boyfriend, who is also a nursing student at Binghamton.
According to investigators, the man left the country by flight before Anderson's body was discovered. Authorities have not said where they believe the man went.
Anderson's family in Westbury has declined to speak to News 12. Neighbors tell News 12 they are heartbroken to hear of Anderson's death. She's being remembered as a sweet girl who grew up in Westbury.
Binghamton police want to hear from anyone who could have information in the case, and they can be reached at 607-772-7080.
