LIE closure, LIRR suspensions make for nightmare nor'easter commute

Long Island saw a nightmare commute Wednesday evening as nor'easter conditions quickly intensified.
All westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway at Exit 51 were closed due to a crash during the evening commute.
The LIRR suspended six branches during the evening rush due to weather-related issues.
Signal problems near Queens Village first led to suspensions on the Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Hempstead branches. Those suspensions continued due to fallen PSEG LI lines after the signal problems were resolved.
The Port Jefferson branch experienced another suspension Wednesday evening after a train struck a fallen tree on the tracks near Cold Spring Harbor.
The Babylon and Montauk branches were suspended due to fallen utility wires across the tracks near Freeport.
