Residents and public works crews across Long Island prepared Tuesday for a second nor'easter that is bringing with it a mixture of snow, sleet and rain.

In Syosset, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joe Saladino said trucks had loaded up on its 9,000-ton supply of salt and sand. Many of those trucks pretreated roads Tuesday.

"This will be a dangerous storm," said Saladino. "We anticipate the snowfall will make driving very dangerous."

In Garden City, Nassau Executive Laura Curran said more than 100 pieces of equipment, including plows, payloaders and pickup trucks, were ready to clear the roads.

She said the snow removal process would be more difficult because it comes on the heels of Friday's nor'easter.

"It's a huge challenge on our resources because we're still cleaning up from last week's storm and now we're getting ready for a new one," said Curran.

Officials in Huntington and Hempstead also declared Tuesday that they were ready for the snow.

"We have 30,000 tons of salt on hand and readying our spreaders to commence operation tonight if necessary when the snow begins to fall," said Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen.

Elected officials reminded residents to keep cars off the street Wednesday to allow plows to clear the roads.
