Kings Park man, service dog barred from Southwest Airlines flight

KINGS PARK -

Southwest Airlines barred a Kings Park man and his service dog from boarding a flight despite having a doctor's note.

Thomas Pollicino showed the airline an email from his doctor containing his diagnosis and the recommendation to travel with an emotional support animal. He tells News 12 he’s provided the same paperwork before with no issues.

"I thought it was a great thing that the airlines came up with this policy allowing service animals...and when they told me she couldn't fly with me…I was upset," he says.

Southwest Airlines says Pollicino’s service dog, Bianca, was not allowed on flight because the note was not on a doctor’s letterhead.

"We offered to re-book the customer on a later flight, if documentation could be provided. The customer chose not to travel," the airline said in a statement.
