A special meal was served to veterans in need this Super Bowl Sunday.

Capt. Robert M. Cornicelli lead the charge in Miller Place, where a truck was loaded with food for homeless veterans across Long Island.

The food was donated by Tuscany Gourmet Market on Route 25A. It was delivered and served at nine local veterans' homeless shelters, and fed more than 100 veterans.

“Once they feel like they're part of the community and not alone, it makes them recover better, says Cornicelli, of Vets for a More Responsive Government.

Cornicelli says the food was supposed to be delivered to the Northport VA, but since it was closed down a couple of weeks ago due to faulty heating, those veterans were spread out at nine homeless veterans shelters  across Long Island.

He says the aim of the event was to provide veterans in need with a game-day feast they could enjoy.
