Swastika found carved into tree at Redding park

A swastika was discovered at a Redding park over the weekend.
Officials say someone out on a walk at Topstone Park discovered the anti-Semitic symbol carved into a tree.
The person took a photo of the symbol and sent it to First Selectman Julia Pemberton, who then got the police involved.
Police say they're coordinating with Ridgefield detectives because of two recent incidents in the town and the proximity of Topstone Park to the Ridgefield line.
Police say the issue is a first for them in Redding, which they describe as an open, accepting town.
"It's a symbol of hate and it's not to be tolerated so whoever is, any person or persons who are apprehended, we'd like to see them prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," says Redding Police Capt. Mark O'Donnell.
Pemberton echoed that sentiment, saying hate has no place in the community.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
