A Bridgeport business that served as the scene of a fatal shooting Tuesday and then a drug bust two days later is disputing the police account of what happened there.
As News 12 previously reported, Jawuan Green, who just turned 21 on Sunday, was gunned down near Snack Shop on Newfield Avenue.
Police raided the shop Thursday and arrested several people for allegedly running a drug factory. They seized several boxes worth of drugs and liquor that the store has no license to sell, according to Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez.
"We took out marijuana and crack cocaine from individuals who were in the store, that were selling out of this store," Perez says.
But shop owner Damien Smith says that's wrong.
"They did not walk out of here with any drugs or any drug paraphernalia," he says.
Smith is accusing police of lying about what they found. He argues that his store is being used as a scapegoat.
Perez dismisses the accusation. He says surveillance and undercover drug buys preceded to the raid.
The city has also moved to cancel Snack Shop's zoning approval and shut down the store.
Green is the city's first homicide victim this year. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (203) 581-5100.
