An Asbury Park mom says she is furious with a bus company after learning her 6-year-old daughter walked home from the bus stop alone on Tuesday.
Latoya Tatum says she was supposed to pick up her daughter Rayanna at her bus stop five blocks away. She says when the bus was late, she went to the school to find out what happened. During that time, the bus did come, and Rayanna walked home by herself before a neighbor took her inside.
Tatum is blaming Seman-Tov, the company Asbury Park College Achieve Charter School hires to bus the children.
The distance from the bus stop to Tatum's home is just over a third of a mile.
A spokesperson for Seman-Tov says about 20 children get off at that stop, making it difficult for the driver or the aide to make sure they are all accounted for. He says that responsibility lies with the parents.
A spokesperson for the charter school says they are looking into other local bus companies to serve the students.
