Police say a Bridgeport woman's boyfriend intentionally ran her over.
The incident happened 1:30 p.m. Monday on Stevens Street in Bridgeport.
Erick Gonzalez, 20, is charged with assault in the case. He was supposed to be arraigned Tuesday, but instead was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Police say Gonzalez became violent when his girlfriend tried to walk away from him during a heated argument. They say he got into his car and struck the woman, launching her nearly 30 feet into a snowbank.
Police say first responders to a nearby house fire were able to quickly help the woman.
"The firemen had to extricate her with shovels out of the snow," says Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez. "That's how deep she went in; she was stuck right in the snow."
Police say the woman suffered injuries that included a broken leg. She was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center and is expected to recover.
