The Long Island Rail Road updated its Twitter account more than 80 times in the past day to alert riders of delays, cancellations and equipment issues.
The latest issue occurred this morning when a broken rail at Plandome shut down train traffic between Great Neck and Port Washington.
The delay forced many riders to take shuttle buses.
State Sen. Todd Kaminsky said the LIRR had hundreds of delays and cancellations during the month of December. He calls that performance “unacceptable” especially given the increase in fares.
"This can't be the new normal,” said the state senator.
News 12 Long Island reached out to the Long Island Rail Road, which apologized to customers and urged them to check the MTA website for updates.
