The new plastic bag law is officially in effect today.
Shoppers who use plastic or paper bags at stores in Suffolk County will have to pay 5 cents per bag.
The law affects supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies and other retail outlets.
Shoppers can save money by bringing reusable bags.
