A gathering was held Saturday at a Nigerian and Caribbean restaurant in Downtown Brooklyn to celebrate the fifth day of Kwanzaa.

The celebration was held at Amarachi and was organized by Your Queens, a company started by Eki Asemota three years ago to teach African history through storytelling, song and dance. 

The event aimed to demonstrate that the African people originate from kings and queens.

To pay tribute to the holiday, people dressed up as royalty, dancing and telling stories, surrounded by pillars of the holiday fruit.

Every household that celebrates Kwanzaa will have a candle display known as a Kinara. Each of the Kinara's seven candles represent important values like honesty, peace and unity.
