Woman dead, child seriously injured after being hit by car in Yaphank

A woman is dead and a child is hurt after being hit by a car in Yaphank. 

It happened on Horseblock Road around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Myshirra High-Cortes, 31 of Brentwood, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her daughter, Jayla Cortes, is in critical condition.

The driver, a 60-year-old resident of Shirley, was not injured. No charges have been filed.

Detectives say the driver stayed at the scene and are asking anyone with information to call them at 631-854-8552.
