Nassau high school renames building after Billy Joel’s mother

The music and theater building at the Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts was renamed Tuesday for Billy Joel’s mother.
Joel says there would be no “Piano Man” without his mother, Rosalind Joel, who passed away in 2013.
At the ceremony, Joel said that his mother always sacrificed for him and gave him hope to become a musician.
“My mom, she was one of the few who said ‘Yes you can.’ She always believed in me,” said Joel. “I still miss her. I always will. But this a great way for her to be remembered.”
