Gov. Andrew Cuomo is unveiling a multimillion-dollar plan to combat gang violence on Long Island.
The proposal includes expanding after-school programs, vocational training and education.
It would also deploy additional state troopers and investigators to work with local police.
Officials hope those measures will help steer young people clear of street gangs like MS-13.
The cost of the program tops $11 million.
More details are expected to be included in Cuomo's State of the State address next month.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone is applauding the plan. He issued a statement that says in part, "The expansion of these services are sorely needed to empower at-risk youth, keep them active in programming and provide a foundation for making healthy choices."
