A Catholic school that has been a fixture in Burlington County for six decades could soon close its doors for good.
The Diocese of Trenton announced it is pulling its support from Holy Cross Academy in Delran Township.
The diocese said the school cannot sustain itself financially, and it has poured almost $14 million into it over the past 20-plus years.
However, some alumni hope to keep Holy Cross Academy open.
Bishop David O'Connell said some former students are working on a plan to keep it open as an independent Catholic high school, starting next July. He said the diocese would help with the transition.
