A chemical leak in the heating and air conditioning system of an elementary school in Elmwood Park prompted an evacuation Wednesday afternoon.
Official say that glycol leaked from the system at Gantner Avenue Elementary School and that students started to complain of lightheadedness and nausea.
The school was evacuated as a precaution and some of the students were taken to the nearby firehouse to be treated.
Officials say that three students, a custodian and a firefighter were hospitalized after they fell sick from the fumes. Two of the students fainted, according to authorities.
School officials say that the school is expected to reopen Thursday as scheduled.
