Suffolk County's Communications Center in Yaphank said its 911 call volume was low during Saturday's snowstorm – an indicator that many heeded the warning of officials to stay off the roadways. 

However, some snow revelers took the opportunity to venture outside and enjoy the wintry weather. News 12 spoke with one couple who were heading out east to pick out their Christmas tree. 

Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone says the county was prepared with 91 pieces of highway county snow removal equipment on roadways and 17,000 tons of salt on hand. 

Suffolk police say they had new police-packaged Chevy Tahoes and Humvees that were ready for any weather conditions.
