Town of Southold withdraws plan on grape restrictions for East End wineries

A controversial proposal that could have crushed many vineyards on the East End has been withdrawn.
Dozens of speakers packed Southold Town Hall last night and urged the town board to reconsider its proposed code amendments on winery standards.
The town had considered requiring wineries to make wine using 80 percent of grapes they grow themselves. Many said the change could put them out of business.
The town supervisor tells News 12 the town plans on meeting with the groups involved individually to come up with a plan.
